Lava Hound/Lava Pup Summary

  • After removing the Lava Hound, the Lava Pups emerge as feeble air troops that scatter in a circular pattern. It is currently in the category of Dark Elixir Troops.
  • These creatures are composed solely of lava and are smaller in size compared to Lava Hounds.
  • The Lava Pups do not have a specific target in mind when attacking. They will attack the building that is closest to them. However, if they encounter enemy Clan Castle troops, Heroes, or Skeleton Trap skeletons, they will engage in combat with them. This occurs if they are under attack or if a friendly troop nearby is under attack. Once the nearby enemy troops are vanquished, the Lava Pups will resume attacking the closest building.
  • It is not possible to directly train, place, or donate sub-troops such as the Lava Hound via the Clan Castle.
  • The housing space of 2 taken up by the Lava Pup significantly impacts its interactions with the Tornado Trap, Clone Spell, and Recall Spell.
  • The activation of the Seeking Air Mine is not possible, but triggering Air Bombs is well within its capabilities.

Strategy

Defensive

  • It’s important to note that the Clan Castle cannot accommodate the Lava Pups when the Lava Hound is inside. Nevertheless, when the Lava Hound bursts, the Lava Pups can emerge and launch a massive attack on the enemies. This tactic can effectively decelerate slower troops, such as the Electro Dragons and the Royal Champion. However, it’s worth mentioning that the Lava Pups will not withstand multiple enemy troop attacks.
  • Utilize Lava Pups alongside Dragons or electro-dragons to effectively delay single-target defenses and support slower units.

Offensive

  • When facing a group of Lava Pups, take them out swiftly with a single Air Bomb or other AOE/Multi-Target defenses. But don’t forget that they can also serve as a temporary diversion for Air Defense. To maximize this opportunity, employ more resilient aerial units to occupy the enemy’s focus and secure crucial seconds.
    • With proper protection, they have the capability to aid in completing building corners akin to Minions.

Trivia

  • At level 1, Lava Pups boast nearly identical stats to Minions, with only slightly lower hitpoints and a shorter range. It’s worth noting that while Minions have a range of 2.75 tiles, Lava Pups’ range is limited to just 2 tiles.
  • The Lava Hound may consist of molten and solid rock, but it is noteworthy that the Lava Pup is made of lava. This observation leads to the inference that the lava might solidify into rock as the Pups mature.
  • It is worth noting that the Lava Pup was not given updated artwork in the Winter 2016 Update, even though other sub-troops, such as the Lava Hound, received new artwork.
